Every year about 65.000 European women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and 43.000 die every year. In Sweden the statistics are even worse, about 700 women are diagnosed and 550 die. New treatments and screening methods are urgently needed to reduce these numbers.

Once a year, Lena Wäppling's Foundation announces funding of scientific research in gynecology, primarily to diagnose and treat ovarian cancer. Applications can be sent in during the period from October 1st to December 15th each year.

Research Grants
The number of grants awarded can vary. As of 2022 (application by Dec 2021), one grant per year is awarded to a junior researcher (max 5 years since PhD at the rime of application). Thanks to our generous donors, there has been a positive growth in the total grant sum. In 2022, 1 million SEK (97.000 EUR) could be awarded.

Medical Expertise
The Scientific Committee of the Swedish Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology is responsible for the medical review of applications received and submits a recommendation to the Board of Lena Wäppling's Foundation for decisions on allocation of funds.
